“I started at CrossFit North Reston at the end of 2017. I had been a runner, but with a sedentary life and job, the little exercise I did was not improving my strength or helping my back and core. My goal for joining CFNR was simple – get back to where I could jump down to the floor and hop back up so I could play with my then-four-year-old son. I had never belonged to a gym. I had never liked working out in a group. But I fell hard for CrossFit and for the community. And I have improved over time. As evidence, when I started: “Trey, you are making my eyes bleed doing that,” from then-coach Brandon. Now: “That was okay, but let’s try …” from coaches Carolyn, Heather, Kevin and Tommy. (I take those as compliments because I know I still have far to go.) Now I log in to look at the workout at 8 p.m. every night, and making it to class each weekday is my goal as it reduces my stress and makes the rest of the day more enjoyable. I have two nutrition challenges under my (now tighter) belt; I have halved my body-fat percentage; I can do pullups; I sort-of-have double-unders, just in time for 19.2; playing with my son means him copying me practicing CrossFit (and he can bear crawl forever). The support I have received from my family and the community at CFNR as I have worked on my fitness the past year has made these changes possible.”
